First post - I'm at work!

Hi everyone!

I thought I'd post really fast at work... I should be doing other things and there's other pictures I want to put up on here but I'm on my work computer so I plan to post again later from home so I can show pictures of some stuff I've been up to.  For now, I've been here about a month and my work is pretty fun so far.  It took a while to get through the process of getting credentialed and background checked, but now I've gotten through that! I'm working on a project that looks at how thinking about details influences the way we remember the past and imagine the future. I'm going to meet the amnesic patients we work with soon as well which will be really interesting.  Everyone is doing such interesting and complicated stuff!

Update from Chicago

Hey everybody, here is a quick update from Chicago:

The weather is warming up (finally).  I am still looking for a job.  I saw Max present at the 2014 Conference for Research at the International Space Station.  There is some crazy research going on at the space station, including extensive preparatory studies for a Mission to Mars, as well as an identical twin study.  This study will compare the physiology and health of one twin in space and the other on Earth, over the course of a year.  Pretty wild.

Max presented his research, involving ultrasound and problems with structure and function of the human eye after extended micro-gravity exposure.  All of the other attendees (phds, mds, etc) were impressed by the presentation, and a few had insightful questions.  Great job Max!

Hopefully my augmented reality app will be available to the public soon, when it is I will make sure to let you guys know.  I'm also go throw in a link to my demo reel.  This is a selection from my animation coursework in grad school.  I am using it to apply for jobs (like an animation resume).  Enjoy!

Not much else to say, hope everyone's summer is going well.  Talk to you soon.

Hi Hopkins Everywhere:

I'm new to blogs and figuring this all out as I go along.  That said, I am attempting to upload a few of my  favorite pictures from the past:

#1 Hopkins kids at their best circa 1970.
#2 Hopkins girls a few years ago. :)

I'm hoping mom and dad upload some pictures from recent visits.  I know they have some good ones.

Wishing everyone a wonderful summer and looking forward to hearing from everyone.

What is up peeps?

I suppose I can tell the exciting story I've had over the past couple days. We ran an experiment from Wednesday to Friday where I ultrasound a vessel behind a participant's eye (looking for blood flow velocity) and then I push on the eye to see how the speed of the blood changes, next I do the same thing with the other eye. After that's done The participant exercises for 15 minutes and then I 'test' their eyes again! We ran through 21 participants, and now I have alot of work to do to analyze the data I collected. Sounds like a ton of fun doesn't it!

Other than that - I have a bachelor's party this weekend. Hopefully that will be at least as exciting.

Cheers,

Max

Great idea Rex.  Please come visit us if you can in sunny NC.  It was only 94 today.
Love the video and the creepy music. Personally, I hate antibodies because they mediate allergic reactions. I'll see if I can come up with something interesting to post.  I did the anesthesia for 22 cataract extractions today--does that count?
Love,
Auntie Em

Welcome!

Hey All

Welcome to the inaugural post of Hopkins Everywhere, a blog dedicated to the travels and adventures of the Hopkins, Kohnkes, and Twedts!

I am reporting from Chicago, where the weather is unseasonably cold and rainy.  I just finished graduate school, and am job hunting as we speak.

This is a picture of my graduate research project, an augmented reality application about the anatomy of the hand.  The display in the background is a 3d printed model.  This app works on both Android and IOS devices, I am hoping to get it on their respective app stores soon.  I'll keep ya posted.

Here is the final project from my animation class.  The animation is about antibodies, and how your body protects itself from infection.  I have a few more animations you can check out at retwedt.tumblr.com.

Other than that, I am just gonna be hanging out in Chicago (and some in Omaha) this summer.  Hopefully it warms up.  Talk to you guys soon.
